The customer had the door repaired at another workshop and the painter has painted solely the door.
In truth this Renault colour is difficult to master and blend properly with the existing car paint colour.
The colour (Orange Valencia) is a two coat system that uses a tinted clear coat on top of base coat in order to achieve the correct colour.
You can see from the pictures the colour basecoat before the tinted clear lacquer is applied.
It’s not an easy process and should raise alarm bells to anyone not experienced in applying it.

So we thought we’d put these few pics on to give people a better understanding of what is involved in the most simple of bumper scuff repairs.

This sort of repair is the easiest and most simple car body repair type that we get into the workshop but yet still involves a process that has to be followed professionally in order to get a good result.
Firstly we need to clean the repair area with a solvent based cleaner this removes surface contamination and also prolongs the useful life of our abrasives as the discs don’t clog with dirt.
Secondly we will sand the area starting with 80 and 180 grit sanding discs finishing off with 320g.
If there’s no filler work to be done we can go straight to priming the repair area.

The damaged area is cleaned with a panel wipe prior to starting the repair.
This cleans the panel, highlights any missed damages and helps prolong the life of our abrasives.
The damage is repaired and then masked ready for the application of a high quality two pack primer.
The primer is baked using infra red then flatted and smoothed with the correct grade abrasive.
The car is then put into the spray booth where it is masked leaving just the repaired area showing ready for paint.
The new colour is applied to the cover the primer then blended into the car’s existing paint.
Two new coats of a high quality lacquer are applied and then baked for 40 minutes.

Suzuki Splash front end collision completely writing off the front bumper, bonnet, headlamp and wiper washer bottle.
Bumper removed and reusable mouldings and trims taken off. Bonnet taken off. Headlamp completely destroyed.
Nothing here is repairable so all new parts ordered.
New bumper gets a coat of an adhesion aid followed by primer. Bumper then painted and baked. Likewise new bonnet.
New water bottle fitted at same time as replacement headlamp.
Bumper and bonnet fitted to car.

Probably would have been easier to have completed a repair and paintwork to the initial damage rather than remove the materials used by this customer.
The repair involved removing pretty much everything on the panel down to the steelwork then re-priming the panel completely.
We left this in dry workshop conditions for a coupon days to minimise the risk of any solvent reaction before re-painting and applying new coats of fresh lacquer.

BMW M135i with a nasty Dent in the drivers 1/4 panel.
Firstly pulled into shape with our POWER TEC Dent Puller to minimise the use of Car Body filler.
Small Dent Repair on inside of door shut repaired and painted first.
Finished off with Syrox Water based paint and two generous coats of protective clear lacquer.
Flatted with 3M fine abrasive and machine polished using ROAR polished. -

Rob Bentham from RLB Dent Sollutions has successfully carried out this extreme dent repair on a nearly new Ford Fiesta where the owner did not want a replacement body panel or repair job that included the use of car body filler.
The car had been impacted simultaneously by two different vehicles leaving the 1/4 panel pretty much ruined.
Rob had his doubts but never the less set to work and over two long days, with a lot of patience, he repaired the bodywork successfully back to its original state.
The repair was carried out using only Glue tabs from KECO UK and no dent bars were used at all.

New passenger side rear door needed as this one is dented and twisted on just a two week old Vauxhall Mokka.
The damaged door is removed from the car and all the electrical items such as central locking and electric window regulator removed.
The new door is delivered from Vauxhall Nottingham and the inside is prepared for painting as it arrives here at Scratchmaster only in a primed state.
The door is painted internally and most of the electrics fitted back. The door is replaced back onto the car and the adjoining panels prepared for blending the colour.
The three panels are painted and given two new coats of protective Syrox clear lacquer.
After baking the car is returned to the customer. -

Ford Fiesta into Scratchmaster for some minor car body repair work.
Dented wing with bumper scuff and broken headlight bracket.
The dented wing was removed and replaced. The new wing was primed, painted internally, and fixed to the car body.
The bumper scuff was repaired and the two panels prepared for paint along with the door.
The door will be used as a blend panel to ensure good colour matching.
The headlight bracket was repaired and light put back into place.
Once painted and lacquered with Syrox products you can see the final result. -
