If you have a bonnet with stone chip damage there is no miracle fix.
There are no types of touch up sticks or brushes available from the well known internet stores that actually work.
A few years ago some of the quite well known mobile services offered stone chip repairs. From the back of a van they used tiny airbrushes powered by 25 litre compressors to colour in each stone chip individually. No lacquer applied after just the solvent based paint.
Reality is that two weeks later the paint washed out and you were left again with the original stone chip.
That process was designed to service the used car trade who had forecourt’s full of used cars that needed ‘tarting up’ to take prospective buyers eyes off any chips or blemishes.
The repairs were completely cosmetic and temporary.
You can see from these pictures the only way to properly fix stone chips. It’s quite a task and here at Scratchmaster , for most customers, we usually advise against it.
The whole bonnet needs sanding and then priming before painting. Care has to be taken with the paint colour matching to the wings and front bumper. Often these need painting too for matching purposes.
This Skoda actually didn’t have that many chips but the owner is very fastidious so off we went with the repair.
The wing weren’t blended but hopefully you can see the match to the newly painted bonnet is spot on.
So there are no cheap or quick stone chip fixes but if you need any help call into the garage or call anytime.
