Volvo Car Body Repair - Dent Repair

Sharp dent on this Volvo 1/4 panel with a crease running pretty much full length.
Small dent repair to the door.
Pin pulled into near original shape then finished off with thin layer of glaze.
Primed pretty heavily then sanded with 180 and 360 grit abrasive. Finished off with 600 grit.
Painted, lacquered and baked before machine polished. -

Should be a new bumper really but we thought we could get a decent result by trying a repair/paint job.
Not quite sure if the Black stripe effect was intended but clearly this needed removing before we could start to repair any underlying damage and re-paint the bumper professionally.
It took best part of a day to remove the customers own paint job and prep the bumper ready for a few new coats of primer. The primer will seal the previous poor paintwork and when sanded give a good surface for the new colour base coat to stick to.

Front bumper not repairable so removed and replaced. Same with wing.
All painted and fitted here at Scratchmaster.
Headlamp also replaced.
Paint not blended into adjacent panels (as would be usual) but this was at the request of the customer.
Thankfully colour match was very good. -
Renault Car Body Repair Nottingham - Renault Megane Repairs

What you can’t see from the pictures is that the door and the wing are catching together badly when the door is opened.
We tried to move the wing back but the initial impact had made this impossible. We also looked at adjusting the door but there was not enough adjustment available.
Eventually we had to shave a small amount of material off the wing edge (plastic wings on some Renaults) and this worked.
After that the Scratches on the wing, bumper corner and door were repaired and painted.
Approximately a three day job. -

We’ve been completely honest with the customer and told him that the car really needs a new 1/4 and using his insurance would, in our opinion, be the best way forward for him.
He’s used us before and doesn’t want to claim on his insurance so he wants us to do the best Bodyshop repair we can.

There are no types of touch up sticks or brushes available from the well known internet stores that actually work.
A few years ago some of the quite well known mobile services offered stone chip repairs. From the back of a van they used tiny airbrushes powered by 25 litre compressors to colour in each stone chip individually. No lacquer applied after just the solvent based paint.
Reality is that two weeks later the paint washed out and you were left again with the original stone chip.
That process was designed to service the used car trade who had forecourt’s full of used cars that needed ‘tarting up’ to take prospective buyers eyes off any chips or blemishe... -
Kia Car Body Repair Nottingham - Bumper Repair

We would not usually carry out a repair on such a badly cracked bumper as it’s not possible to guarantee the longevity of the repair but it’s what the customer wanted so we did our best.
The bumper was plastic welded and reinforced at the back before repairing on the front.
You can see how bad the crack was before it’s repaired and primed.
When painted and lacquered it looked pretty decent and hopefully the repair will stay good for the customer. -
Mercedes Car Body Repair - Bumper Damage

Ideally a new bumper but the cost of replacement was high.
Quite a few hours re-shaping the bumper as this type of damage creates too much plastic and sends the bumper high. Several big coats of 2k primer after the repair which helps get back the styling line.
We promised the customer maybe a 80% repair but in the end it was pretty much 100% and saved £££’s. -

A few compromises made here as the customer could not source a replacement decal for the drivers door.
Additionally the extra door security lock could not be removed which meant that realistically there was not enough room to carry out the repair and paintwork as we normally would.
Usually the decal and lock would be taken off the vehicle to give us some more room.
The dent was repaired and we cleaned the decal thoroughly before masking with fine line tape.
The colour match was really good and not much need for polishing after the lacquer went on clean. -

Simple Repair but in order to achieve the Correct Colour Match Several Coats of a Tinted Lacquer need to be applied.
This differs from the usual straight base colour coat that’s lacquered with a clear lacquer.
Sometimes called a Candy Colour or Tinted Base Coat or perhaps a Three Stage Colour.
More complicated and time consuming to work with. -

Pulled into shape then finished off with minimal amount of car body filler.
The repaired panel(s) are then primed and baked.
When flatted the car can be put into the paint spray booth and painted.
Using water based Syrox paint and U-POL lacquer.
The car is baked again and polished. -

As we were not aware, until his review that he was unhappy, the pictures are not as detailed as we would have otherwise made them they are simply general images that we usually take before and after pics.
Matt hasn’t been in touch since he collected the car thus we had no idea there was a problem.
We always guarantee our work and materials 100% within parameters agreed with our customer and would always put right, without any hesitation or argument, any issue if one were to arise.

A replacement bumper ideally needed here but somehow we got talked into repairing this one.
Full of old body filler and painted with a shop bought spray can rather badly.
We dug out all the old car body filler and started from scratch. The dent in the bumper was pretty much the size of a football.
Several hours trying to reshape the bumper then primed, painted and lacquered.
A pretty decent result for what really wasn’t an economical repair. -

This paint and repair job was difficult mostly down to a previous repair on the front door which you can see is totally wrong.

The customer had the door repaired at another workshop and the painter has painted solely the door.
In truth this Renault colour is difficult to master and blend properly with the existing car paint colour.
The colour (Orange Valencia) is a two coat system that uses a tinted clear coat on top of base coat in order to achieve the correct colour.
You can see from the pictures the colour basecoat before the tinted clear lacquer is applied.
It’s not an easy process and should raise alarm bells to anyone not experienced in applying it.
