This nearly new Citroen C3 in White came into the Scratchmaster workshop 26/8/20 having lost a battle with a gate hinge. This is fairly common when people have removed gates from their gate posts but have not removed the hinges from the posts.
THE REPAIR:
We removed the paint from around the damaged area and with our pro-pull plus dent puller system we pull the metal as near as possible to the original shape.
This repair method helps keep body filler down to a minimum which will keep the repair looking good. When a lot of body filler is used in thick layers it will shrink over time and the repair will deteriorate.
Using this Scratchmaster system we apply a small amount of high quality body filler and finish shaping by hand. Primer is then sprayed over the area and baked hard. The primer is often sprayed over with a light dusting of a black paint or 'guide coat'.
When sanded or flatted by hand this will help highlight any high or low areas within the repair.
The repaired areas are degreased and cleaned of any previous products that might have contained silicone or other contaminants.
Now we are happy with the repair we can take a look at the paint.
THE PAINT:
Scratchmaster use the latest Syrox colour paint system for car and commercial vehicles.
We use a colour spectro camera to take a picture of your car colour. The camera plugs into a live database of colour formulations.
We then mix the colour according to the very latest colour information for your car.
Many people say to us "don't you have a paint code for my car ?" The answer is yes we do but over time all vehicle manufacturers and their paint suppliers mix different batches of paint and these do not all come out an exact match to their previous paint mixes or formulations...!!! These are called variants. This is where our colour spectro camera earns its money...!!! It will identify your own vehicles exact shade/variant.
Sometimes if the damaged or repaired area is very close to the next panel we might put some colour onto that panel to guarantee the colour match, this is called a blend panel and we do this only when the repaired area is very close to the next panel.
After painting we apply at least two coats of high quality anti scratch lacquer.
TO FINISH:
So now we have a great repair and the car has its new colour and several coats of hard baked shiny new lacquer. When this Citroen came out of the spray booth it was pretty much good to go but we lightly flatted the new clear coat with 3M 1500 grit wet & dry paper and buffed the panels to a high shine before a quick courtesy wash. Nice job!!
